Teen Who Fell from Whispering Gallery Named

A university student who fell from a gallery at Saint Paul’s Cathedral has been named.

Known to his friends as "JJ", Jorge De Sousa Stayton, 19, died from multiple injuries after falling one-hundred feet from the Whispering Gallery. The death is not being treated a suspicious.

The family of the student, who studied at Queen Mary University of London, expressed their deep shock in losing their "beautiful and talented" son in a tribute issued through the City of London police.

Senior Coroner Alison Hewitt opened the inquest at City of London Coroner's Court and it will continue once further evidence is gathered.

Jorge de Sousa Stayton's death comes after a similar incident just 18 months ago, where 23-year-old figure-skater, Lidia Dragescu, died after falling from the same gallery.

St Paul's Cathedral have announced on their website that the Whispering Gallery is closed until further notice, in light of the recent incidents.
